BLOCKBUSTER SET TO OPEN NBL1 SCHEDULE
NUNAWADING BASKETBALL | The Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres will officially open the inaugural NBL1 season on the road, Friday 29 March against the Geelong Supercats - a nostalgic matchup pitting the two former NBL foes against each other for the first time in the rebranded league.
The Spectres then play their ‘Home Opener’ the following night, Saturday 30 March hosting the Ballarat Rush and Miners.
Each team will play 20 games during the home and away season, with the NBL1 championship game scheduled for Saturday 17 August. All fixtures are featured double headers, with both the women’s and men’s teams in action.
NBL Chief Operating Officer, Andy Crook, said: “The release of the NBL1 fixture builds the excitement and anticipation ahead of what is sure to be a thrilling inaugural season.
The Graveyard at Nunawading Basketball Centre will set the backdrop to 10 huge game night events, including a school holiday blockbuster Friday 12 April against the Eltham Wildcats. An old rivalry will be re-ignited Saturday 4 May with the Spectres squaring off against the Knox Raiders for the first time since 2014, whilst traditional rivals the Kilsyth Cobras will bookend the Spectres home fixture on Saturday 13 July.
NBL1 will introduce four feature rounds in 2019;
Round 4 - ANZAC Round vs. Frankston Blues
Round 6 - Mother’s Day Round @ Southern Sabres
Round 10 - Rivalry Round vs. Melbourne Tigers
Round 14 - Indigenous Round vs. Kilsyth Cobras
