Nunawading Basketball News

NUNAWADING BASKETBALL | The Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres have confirmed the signing of American forward Ray Mitchell for the upcoming NBL1 season.

Mitchell joins the team on the back of a successful season with Al Dahfra in the United Arab Emirates Kings Cup where he averaged 22.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

“Nunawading is a prestigious program that is already a well-oiled machine,” Mitchell said on signing.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres.”

“The players and coaching staff have been together for almost a decade, so I am eager to be on the court with such an experienced team.”

“Coach and the rest of the staff really know the game of basketball, which makes it more exciting to see how I will continue to grow under such great knowledge.”

Mitchell himself brings a great wealth of experience to the Spectres, having plied his trade around the globe since graduating from Cal State Stanislaus in 2013, including stops in some of the worlds most renowned leagues. His high flying style sure to draw a huge crowd to all Spectres NBL1 fixtures.

“Ray’s a pure athlete with a hunger for the ball,” Spectres Head Coach Dave Biwer added on his newest recruit.

“Defensively he can guard 1 through 4, he runs the floor and can score in the half court in and out of our system. Potentially, his portfolio is legit, and we can’t wait to see that translate onto the court this NBL1 season.”

Mitchell becomes the sixth member of the Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres men’s team confirmed for the inaugural NBL1 season, where he will join Shane McDonald, Tom Wright, Costas Hronopoulos, Simon Conn and Jon Cooke. With the team having already started preseason activity, further signing announcements are expected soon.
