NUNAWADING BASKETBALL | The Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres have confirmed that Rebecca Pizzey will join the team ahead of the 2019 Elite League season.

Pizzey joins the Spectres on the back of her second season in the Women’s National Basketball League with the Jayco Rangers and one season with the Rangers South East Australian Basketball League program where she posted 8.0 points at 48% from the field and 4.65 rebounds per game, across 20 games in 2018.

“We’re really excited to be adding Bec to our group this season,” Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres Head Coach Paul Flynn said.

“Alongside Kath (Scheer), Bec forms a formidable frontcourt duo that is sure to pose match up problems for opponents. They’re both long, versatile players with an ability to score inside and out.”

“Bec is a relentless competitor and with an increased role, I expect that she will establish herself as one of the premier offensive rebounding forwards in the league this season.”

Pizzey, who has previously played for Flynn as part of the Basketball Victoria State Team program was extremely excited about her move to the Spectres.

“I’m stoked to be joining Nunawading for the inaugural Elite League season.”

“I’m excited to work with Flynnie again, I love his coaching style and the environment he creates within his teams.”

“I can’t wait to get to work with my new teammates and coaches with some new faces around Nunawading Basketball’s amazing program.”

At Nunawading, Pizzey reconnects with former WNBL teammate Rachel Antoniadou and current running mate Kiera Rowe. The Spectres have also confirmed the return of captain Izzy Chilcott plus the additions of Melbourne Boomers guard Chelsea D’Angelo and star import Kathleen Scheer.

The Elite League, which is still to be formally named will tip off on March 29 with a full schedule expected to be released soon.
