Nunawading Basketball News

NUNAWADING BASKETBALL | The Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres continue to build their roster ahead of the Elite League season, announcing today that Kiera Rowe has signed with the club for 2019.

Rowe, who joins the Spectres on the back of her second season with the Rangers in the Women’s National Basketball League was enthusiastic about starting the next chapter of her professional career with Nunawading.

“I am extremely excited to play for Nunawading this coming season. I have enjoyed being coached by Paul (Flynn) in the past and I am grateful for this opportunity he has given me.”

“I can’t wait to get on the floor with the team, work hard, have some fun and continue to develop my game.”

In 2018, Rowe also played in the SEABL where she posted averages of 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals across 20 games for the Rangers, having previously logged 24 games for Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence.

The athletic guard was an integral member of the Sapphires (U17) Gold Medal World Cup Campaign in 2016 and has also represented Australia at U19 level on the international stage.

“Kiera is an incredible addition to our team this season,” Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres Head Coach Paul Flynn said.

“Her work ethic is second to none. She wakes up every day with the intent to make herself a better player and in the process makes everyone around her better too.”

“Kiera is incredibly versatile, which affords us the ability to play her and the rest of the team, a number of ways this season. She shot the three at 39% last season, can get to the rack and is a lock down defender. I’m excited that she’ll be in a Spectres singlet this season and humbled that a player of her caliber has put her faith in me to help her take another giant leap forward in her career development.”

Rowe joins Izzy Chilcott, Rachel Antoniadou, star import Kathleen Scheer and current Melbourne Boomers guard Chelsea D’Angelo as the confirmed signings for the Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres women’s team, with the men’s team already confirming the return of Simon Conn and captain Tom Wright.

With the league set to formally launch its new name and branding in the near future, Nunawading Basketball is set to confirm a number of exciting signings over the next fortnight.
