Not manufactured. Just genuine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As Round 1 approaches, Head Coach Paul Flynn speaks less about outcomes and more about connection. In a short period of time, this group has found alignment in how it wants to work and what it wants to represent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cIt\u2019s positive,\u201d Flynn said.\u00a0 \u201cThe girls have come together from a character perspective well. There\u2019s a genuine curiosity as we build out our identity, but we\u2019re all very much on the same page with what we want to achieve and how we get there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Time together has been limited. That is the reality across the league. What has stood out is how quickly the group has aligned on something deeper than structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe\u2019re still a work in progress,\u201d Flynn said.\u00a0 \u201cWhat\u2019s been pleasing is how quickly the group got on the same page philosophically. That\u2019s helped drive accountability. Everyone brings something to the table.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">This is a team built on balance. Different personalities. Different strengths. A group that fits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cA team that plays for each other,\u201d Flynn said.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re not built on individual brilliance. An ability to stretch the floor. But the identity sits elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cFamily, connection, togetherness,\u201d Flynn said.\u00a0 \u201cThis team has genuinely come together on a unified desire to step out as a team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">For Flynn, standards are not statements. They are habits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cShowing up,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cYou might be exhausted, but we need you to give 100 percent of whatever is left.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It extends to the smallest details.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cHigh fives. They\u2019re free. They make everyone feel good,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s a simple connection piece, but it makes a difference.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Those habits are what hold when the game tightens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cIt tells you whether your standards are just words, or something stronger that drives success.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Round 1 will provide the first test.\u00a0 A Tasmania trip to open the season brings two games and extended time together. For Flynn, it is an opportunity rather than a challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe get to see what we\u2019ve been working on in a live environment,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cAnd continue to build together in a way you don\u2019t get elsewhere in the season.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">There is no expectation of perfection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cIt won\u2019t be perfect,\u201d Flynn said.\u00a0 \u201cBut are we pointing in the right direction. Are we living up to the identity we\u2019ve set.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">At Nunawading, the senior program carries responsibility beyond results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cThe senior program exists for our juniors to have something to aspire to,\u201d Flynn said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">That connection is deliberate. Presence matters. Visibility matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cAs a kid, you emulate your role models,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cSo what we do matters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Within the group, responsibility is shared. Leadership is not confined to one voice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cEveryone has their own behaviour they\u2019ve taken responsibility for,\u201d Flynn said.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s been a key for us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It shows in how quickly the group has settled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cEveryone is comfortable and empowered to be themselves,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s been significant in building our connections.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Now it becomes visible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe want to be gritty, together, and known for setting the tone,\u201d Flynn said.\u00a0 \u201cWe don\u2019t want to play reactionary basketball.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">That is the task heading into Round 1.\u00a0 Set the tone. Stay connected when it gets hard.
