For months, people have looked toward Level 3 at Forest Hill Chase and asked the same question.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is going up there?<\/span><\/p>\n

A structure has been rising in plain sight. Rumours have circulated through grandstands, score tables and sidelines. People have speculated. Clubs have asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

Truthfully, it may have been the worst kept secret in basketball.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now it has a name.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Summit Sports Complex.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

While this marks the naming of Nunawading Basketball\u2019s new three-court facility, it signals something much larger than a venue announcement. It represents a belief that sporting infrastructure can do more than accommodate participation – it can shape identity, strengthen community and create new possibilities around how sport connects with place.<\/span><\/p>\n

The name The Summit<\/em> was chosen with intent. There is a literal connection, with the facility positioned on Level 3, elevated above the retail environment at Forest Hill Chase. But the symbolism runs deeper. A summit is a place of aspiration, progress and perspective. It suggests striving toward something higher, while also serving as a point where paths converge.<\/span><\/p>\n

For a facility designed around development pathways, ambition and belonging, that felt fitting.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is also a story behind the name itself that reflects the generational nature of community sport. The name The Summit Sports Complex<\/em> was coined by Charli Flynn, a current U16 Nunawading Spectres representative and second-generation Spectres athlete, with both parents having represented Nunawading at junior and senior level.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is something fitting in that.<\/span><\/p>\n

A venue designed to serve future generations, named by one.<\/span><\/p>\n

It captures, in a simple way, what this project is intended to be about.<\/span><\/p>\n

That thinking has also shaped the identity developed around the brand. The ascending forms within the mark speak to progression, momentum and layered pathways of development. The colours draw from Nunawading Basketball\u2019s heritage while establishing a distinct identity for what comes next. It was important the brand feel connected to the past but not confined by it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because this is not simply additional court space.<\/span><\/p>\n

At one level, The Summit Sports Complex is a three-court basketball facility. At another, it represents a different model for community sport.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its location above a major retail centre changes the context. With more than 10,000 projected weekly visits expected through the facility, directly connected into Forest Hill Chase, the opportunity extends beyond participation alone.<\/span><\/p>\n

It creates a powerful driver of people, activity and connection.<\/span><\/p>\n

Community sport is often measured through registrations and attendance, but its deeper value lies in behaviour – how often people return, how long they stay, and the habits that form around place. Exposure is easy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Engagement is where it gets interesting.<\/span><\/p>\n

And in that distinction sits much of this project\u2019s long-term opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n

That thinking sits at the heart of why this project matters. By placing community sport within a broader ecosystem of movement, commerce and social activity, The Summit introduces possibilities rarely seen in grassroots environments.<\/span><\/p>\n

It also reflects the power of partnership. This project has been made possible through strong collaboration with Haben, owner and manager of Forest Hill Chase, whose long-term vision for the precinct has embraced the role sport and community infrastructure can play in shaping place. The result is a model that brings together private investment and community purpose in a way that feels both innovative and deeply practical.<\/span><\/p>\n

That matters, and it is worth recognising.<\/span><\/p>\n

When complete, The Summit Sports Complex will support competitions, representative pathways, development programs, school engagement, events and broader community activation. It will be a home for basketball, but the ambition reaches further than that.<\/span><\/p>\n

The aim is to create a place people identify with.<\/span><\/p>\n

A place people return to.<\/span><\/p>\n

A place with its own gravity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, however, is simply the beginning of that story.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the weeks ahead, we will share more as we approach the official launch of The Summit Sports Complex – the thinking behind the name and brand, the partnerships shaping the project, the opportunities it creates for community and commercial growth, and a closer look at what life at The Summit will become.<\/span><\/p>\n
