MELBOURNE – Rachel Antoniadou will remain a Spectre, Nunawading confirming today that the club had re-signed the star guard ahead of the NBL1 2021 season.

The Spectres made re-signing Antoniadou a priority after two strong seasons at Nunawading. Antoniadou joining the Spectres late into their 2018 preseason, then produced a career best year in 2019, appearing in 23 games for Nunawading posting returns of 11.9 points at 46%, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

“We’re thrilled to have Rach locked in for the upcoming NBL1 season,” Spectres Head Coach Paul Flynn said.

“She’s one of our leaders, she holds herself to a such a high standard of performance on the practice floor that she naturally makes everyone around her more accountable in their own development. We’re instantly a better program having Rach in a Nunawading uniform.”

Antoniadou returned to the Women’s National Basketball League scene this past season, playing the shortened hub format with the Melbourne Boomers. An innocuous scrimmage mishap early in the season unfortunately saw the point guard sidelined for much of the condensed season.

Now entering her third season with the Spectres, Antoniadou has very clear ambitions for her Nunawading squad.

“We want to win,” Antoniadou said.

“We’ve come so close the past two seasons and were primed to give it a real shake last year before the pandemic brought our entire season to a shattering halt. That said, we’ve got an exciting roster on the court that all want to play for each other and are all in in terms of chasing that championship.”

“I love playing for Nunawading, the support from the club and the culture is unmatched.”

Antoniadou is joined by Melbourne Boomers teammate Rachel Brewster, along with Louise Brown and Tessa Boyd as confirmed signings for the Spectres ahead of NBL1 2021. Nunawading reached the Preliminary Final in 2019 but was bundled out by eventual champion, Kilsyth.

The Spectres have commenced official preseason training ahead of the NBL1 2021 season, with a full schedule expected to be announced shortly. On the back of a year away from courts, there’s been no better time to sign up for a Nunawading Spectres NBL1 Membership – details available soon!
