MELBOURNE – The Nunawading Spectres have confirmed the signing of veteran guard Peter Hooley for the upcoming NBL1 season.

The South Australian native was a spark plug for Melbourne United in the National Basketball League between 2017-2019 before switching into the commentary booth, also playing for the Kilsyth Cobras in the inaugural NBL1 season.

“I’m excited to be joining such a high-quality program,” Hooley said.

“I’m looking forward to getting back out there with a great bunch of guys and compete for a championship.”

“I’ve had many tough battles against Nunawading over the years, so it’ll be a welcome change to be on this side of the floor. I hope I can go out there and add some leadership and experience and have some fun playing.”

The addition of Hooley strengthens the Spectres backcourt which lost league legend Shane McDonald at the end of 2019, the experienced guard set to wreak havoc alongside Nunawading captain Tom Wright.

Spectres Head Coach Andrew Cutler excited about what his newest recruit can offer the defending champs.

“We’re really pleased to add Pete to our group this season”

“We anticipate that Pete will fit seamlessly into our group and give us great balance in the backcourt.”

“His veteran experience is invaluable. We have already seen what his knowledge of the game brings to our practice environment and we can’t wait to see him on the floor come game time.”

The Spectres tip off their NBL1 South campaign this Saturday night at Frankston Basketball Stadium against an impressive Blues line-up.
