After four games, the 21-year-old guard is not just stepping into the spotlight\u2014he\u2019s owning it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"387\" data-end=\"757\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Averaging 22.75 points per game in the early stages of the NBL1 South season, D\u2019Angelo is making an undeniable case for Most Improved Player honours and is shaping as a frontrunner for the Youth Player of the Year award. His offensive numbers are up across the board, and more importantly, he\u2019s doing it with a confidence and poise that has come to define his evolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"759\" data-end=\"1105\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe haven\u2019t had the start to the season that we would\u2019ve liked,\u201d said Spectres Head Coach Andrew Cutler, referring to Nunawading\u2019s 1\u20133 record. \u201cBut Christian\u2019s play has been a big positive. He\u2019s worked really hard since joining our program in 2021\u2014through Youth League and NBL1\u2014and he is continuing to build on the flashes he showed last season.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1150\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Those flashes are now full-blown fireworks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1150\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0yKRDVWTcmI?si=3hxxv0NVDq3qaGgQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1466\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">D\u2019Angelo opened the season with 15 points against Waverley, followed by a 21-point effort at Kilsyth, before erupting for 28 points in a thrilling one-point win over Ringwood. Most recently, he poured in 27 against Casey, showcasing a shot-making ability that has become central to the Spectres&#8217; offensive schemes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1468\" data-end=\"1699\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cHe\u2019s become a dynamic offensive player with his ability to make quick decisions, play off the catch and finish with creativity,\u201d Cutler explained. \u201cWe\u2019ve asked him to play an expanded role and he\u2019s really grasped the opportunity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1701\" data-end=\"2044\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The growth isn\u2019t just in raw production\u2014it\u2019s in trajectory. Consider this: D\u2019Angelo\u2019s scoring average has more than doubled in each of the past three seasons. From just 1.33 points per game in his 2021 debut season, to 2.79 in 2022, 4.32 in 2023, and 11.23 last year. His current 22.75 PPG mark isn\u2019t just an improvement\u2014it\u2019s a transformation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1701\" data-end=\"2044\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y3-hKqKtjSo?si=80Ve-Ksx1uD93t0E\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2046\" data-end=\"2392\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Perhaps more telling is his composure in big moments. Against Ringwood, with the game in the balance, D\u2019Angelo looked every bit the go-to guy, knocking down clutch buckets and showing a mature shot selection beyond his years. He shot a blistering 52.6% from the field that night\u2014further proof that his ascension is built on more than just volume.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2394\" data-end=\"2543\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cThe exciting thing is that there\u2019s still so much room for him to improve,\u201d Cutler added. \u201cAnd we know he\u2019ll do the work on those areas of his game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2545\" data-end=\"2831\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">D\u2019Angelo\u2019s rise is also a reflection of Nunawading\u2019s developmental system\u2014one that values long-term investment, opportunity, and internal growth.
