Nunawading Basketball is extremely pleased to acknowledge the $30 million commitment from the Liberal Party towards the redevelopment of the Nunawading Indoor Sports Centre, as announced by Dr Katie Allen, Liberal Candidate for Chisholm and Member for Deakin Michael Sukkar MP.

This announcement marks another important step forward in the vision to transform the 55-year-old facility into a contemporary, inclusive and high-capacity indoor sports hub for Melbourne’s east and surrounding regions.

The proposed redevelopment will include a significant expansion of court capacity, a modernised show court, upgraded changing rooms and amenities, and improved seating for spectators – all essential elements that will enhance the experience for players, coaches, officials, families and fans alike.

Dr Katie Allen MP stated:

“An elected Liberal Government will invest $30 million towards the redevelopment of the Nunawading Indoor Sports Centre, delivering a game-changing upgrade for one of Australia’s biggest grassroots basketball communities. We’re backing local kids, families, and volunteers to thrive in a modern, inclusive and purpose-built venue.

“With over 1,200 clubs and 1 million players using these courts each year, this upgrade will cater to the community’s needs for years to come. Thank you to the local community, clubs, and Whitehorse Council for your advocacy for this cherished facility!”

Robert Green, President, Nunawading Basketball said

“We thank the Candidate for Chisholm and the Member for Deakin for making a significant commitment to this project.  Furthermore, I would like to acknowledge the long-term support and advocacy from the Member for Deakin, Michael Sukkar MP, for our organisation and facility expansion plans.  I would also like to thank our many volunteers, members and participants who have supported us in our advocacy for new facilities over many years. This now means we have a bi-partisan commitment for this legacy project. We look forward to working with all key stakeholders to bring it to fruition”.

Nunawading Basketball delivers more than 20,000 games annually and welcomes over one million visitors each year. This funding commitment represents a strong endorsement of the long-standing efforts from our members, volunteers, local clubs and partners – and reflects the growing need for purpose-built infrastructure to meet expanding community participation.

We are grateful for the ongoing support and engagement from all levels of government, both sides of Parliament and we continue to work collaboratively to ensure the successful delivery of a redeveloped Nunawading Indoor Sports Centre that will serve current and future generations.
