Nunawading Basketball welcomes the announcement from the Wilson Liberal Party committing $25 million towards the redevelopment of the Nunawading Indoor Sports Centre, should it be elected.
This significant commitment acknowledges the vital role the facility plays in delivering sporting opportunities across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and the importance of investing in community sport infrastructure to support growing demand.
The promised investment will go towards a complete redevelopment of the existing facility – transforming the 56-year-old venue into a modern, regional indoor sports hub catering to basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton, adaptive sports, and a range of community programs.
Nunawading Basketball is proud to serve over 15,000 members and deliver more than 25,000 games annually – contributing to over one million visits each year. With the Centre currently at capacity, this commitment represents a crucial step towards realising the vision of a facility that can meet the needs of the local community now and into the future.
Today’s announcement builds on the $35 million already committed by Whitehorse City Council, and $45million committed by the Federal Government and has been made possible through the ongoing support and advocacy of our local politicians, Whitehorse Council, stakeholders and broader sporting community.

“Local families and clubs have been telling us for years that the Nunawading Basketball Centre needs to be upgraded. This is a facility with a proud history, and it deserves to be built for the next generation of players, not the last one.”

“Our community is proud that Nunawading has produced more Olympians than any other basketball program in the country, and it all starts on these local courts but the centre simply hasn’t kept pace with a program of this calibre or with the number of locals who want to play.”
Whitehorse City Council, Mayor, Kirsten Langford said:
“The centre supports one of Australia’s largest sporting Associations and this funding is crucial to ensure the facility can meet community and elite sporting demand into the future. The feasibility work done by Whitehorse City Council has clearly demonstrated the need for this investment.”
