MELBOURNE – The Nunawading Spectres have signed guard Costas Hronopoulos for the upcoming NBL1 season, the team announced today.

Hronopoulos returned 10.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists across 24 appearances for the Spectres in 2019, playing an integral role in Nunawading’s championship success. On the back of arguably his most complete season, Hronopoulos was named to the NBL1 All Star team that won the World Basketball Invitational in Thailand .

“It was incredibly important for us to re-sign Costas for the 2021 season,” Spectres Head Coach Andrew Cutler said.

“He sets the tone for our group with his energy, toughness and competitive spirit.”

“We are excited to see what Costas can do with even more responsibility in our backcourt this year.”

The combo guard stepped up in 2019 for Nunawading, with the roster regularly missing players due to FIBA 3×3 commitments, Hronopoulos was leaned upon to shoulder more of an offensively load than in previous years, having established a strong reputation as one of the league’s best defensive guards.

“It was frustrating not being able to play last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Hronopoulos said.

“I know the rest of the boys, like myself are looking forward to getting out there this year and defending our 2019 NBL1 title.”

“I’m looking forward to coming back to Nunawading, a club I’ve been proud to represent for the past 18 years at both junior and senior level.”

The Spectres open their campaign on the road with a visit to old foes, the Frankston Blues locked in for Saturday 17 April. The home opener comes on Sunday 25 April, in a Round 2 clash with Sandringham – that event made even more extraordinary as the Spectres men will finally be presented with their 2019 NBL1 championship rings and another banner raised to the rafters at The Graveyard.

There has never been a better time to go All-In and become a Nunawading Spectres NBL1 Member. With the potential for capacity restrictions, a Nunawading Spectres NBL1 Membership is the only way to lock-in your seat on game-day.
