Basketball Victoria announced its U18 State Teams set to contest the 2024 National Championships in Brisbane this April, with Nunawading Basketball represented by five athletes in the U18 Vic Metro Women’s squad.

Jada Kennedy, Taia McMechan and Zoe Shanahan all earned selection, with Emilia Drmic and Teagan Potter named as emergencies in the squad.

Grant Wallace, GM High Performance and Pathways said the regular calendar of play and preparation plus stellar performances at the East Coast Challenge and Country Cup has determined a high calibre group of athlete to be selected from.

“Our biggest strength is our culture and we have seen the success of our High-Performance Hubs as part of our State Development Program that has helped drive the standards and competitiveness to a new level. Our whole group is looking forward to the trip to Queensland in April,” Wallace said.

Nunawading Basketball Operations Manager Paul Flynn expressed his excitement for the five Spectres athletes named to the squad.

“As a program we’re excited to see five of our athletes named to Basketball Victoria’s State Team. This is a momentous achievement for each, especially given Victoria’s rich history in competing at National Championships. Each athlete has travelled different path to get where they are today, and Nunawading Basketball will proudly support them as they continue along their elite development pathway. We wish them all every success across the preparation and championship phases of this program.”
