The Nunawading Spectres have confirmed today that Australian 3×3 star Andrew Steel will once again represent his junior program at NBL1 level, the swing forward re-signing ahead of the 2020 season.

Steel’s inaugural NBL1 campaign was somewhat interrupted last year, a combination of injury and National 3×3 commitments limiting the star to just 12 appearances in 2019. He did return 7.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per outing, helping guide Nunawading to the NBL1 Championship.

“I’m really excited to be back at my home club to defend the title,” Steel said on confirmation of his return.

“It was an unbelievable feeling to win the first NBL1 championship. We had come just short a number of times in the old SEABL, but we’ve now got the monkey off of our back. We’ve got a great opportunity to keep in rolling.”

Nunawading Head Coach Dave Biwer was as equally excited to have Steel returning to his lineup, commenting, “We needed to make sure guys like Steelo returned to make sure the ship kept pointing in the right direction.”

“With long time Spectres’ like Macca (Shane McDonald) and Cobbs (Jesse Caspersz) announcing their retirement post-season, the influence of a Steelo on our identity magnifies.”

“He’ll be in and out a little with 3×3 commitments, but we know we’re a better team with him in the lineup.”

Steel has commenced pre-season sessions with his Nunawading teammates. He joins Tom Wright, Costas Hronopoulos, Darcy Harding, Dain Swetalla, Simon Conn and Luke Van Rijn as confirmed signings for the Spectres title defence.

The Spectres will play 22-games in the upcoming NBL1 South Regular Season, including 11-Home Game Double Headers scheduled with the Nunawading Women’s Team.

Nunawading open the 2020 NBL1 South regular season April 18 at The Graveyard against Diamond Valley Eagles.

Nunawading Basketball has released a number of exciting partnership packages ahead of the 2020 NBL1 South tip-off, including player sponsorships and a variety of digital content rights.
