The Nunawading Spectres are the elite representative program of the Melbourne East Basketball Association (MEBA), Australia’s largest and most recognisable basketball association. The program offers aspirational athletes a pathway to compete at state and national levels, developing the next generation of elite players and coaches.


Our Legacy

With a history spanning over 60 years, the Nunawading Spectres have grown from humble beginnings to become a powerhouse in Australian basketball.

  • Synonymous with success and excellence, the program has produced more Australian Olympic and World Championship players and coaches than any other program in the country.

  • The pipeline continues today, with players and coaches consistently representing Victoria in national competitions.

2025 Highlights:

  • Multiple Spectres players and coaches represented Victoria at the National Championships, including:

    • Taia McMechan, Tom Dammers, Charlie Wilson, Alexander Mabbott, Libby Schoenfeld, Amy Quick, Justin Wong, and more

  • U14 Boys qualified for the Australian Club Championships in Perth, WA


Pathway & Age Groups

Representative basketball officially begins at U12 through the VJBL, with future plans to expand pathways to:

  • U10 Development Squads / Tournament Teams

While most players graduate after U18, the Spectres program continues to offer pathways into:
