Applications are now open for coaching appointments within the Nunawading Spectres Representative Program for the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) 2026/2027 season.
The Spectres are the representative teams of the Melbourne East Basketball Association – Australia’s largest basketball association. Each season, our coaches play a critical role in developing athletes, shaping team environments and contributing to one of Australia’s leading junior representative basketball programs.
We’re seeking coaches who are passionate about athlete development, committed to continual learning and capable of positively influencing young people both on and off the court.

Coaching at Nunawading
Coaching at Nunawading is about far more than preparing a team for Friday night.
Our coaches are educators, mentors and leaders who help shape the experience of every athlete within the Spectres Representative Program. Every training session, every timeout and every conversation presents an opportunity to build confidence, develop resilience and help young people reach their potential.
We are committed to creating an environment where coaches continue to develop alongside their athletes through collaboration, coach education, mentoring and continual improvement. In return, we expect our coaches to uphold the standards of the program, contribute positively to the broader coaching group and place the long-term development of athletes at the centre of everything they do.

Coaching within the Spectres Representative Program is a privilege, and one that carries significant responsibility.
We seek to appoint coaches who:
- Develop people before players.
- Create environments where athletes feel challenged, supported and inspired.
- Hold themselves to the same standards they expect from their athletes.
- Communicate with professionalism, respect and integrity.
- Embrace feedback and continually seek to improve.
- Contribute positively to the broader Spectres Representative Program.
- Represent Nunawading Basketball with humility, pride and distinction.
Coaching Opportunities
Applications are invited for both Head Coach and Assistant Coach appointments across:
- Under 12 Boys & Girls
- Under 14 Boys & Girls
- Under 16 Boys & Girls
- Under 18 Boys & Girls
- Under 20 Men & Women
Applicants may nominate multiple age groups and indicate whether they wish to be considered for Head Coach, Assistant Coach or either appointment.
Our Commitment
Just as we expect our coaches to invest in the development of our athletes, we are equally committed to investing in the development of our coaches.
Successful applicants will become part of a coaching environment that values collaboration, professional growth and continual learning through coach education, mentoring, shared planning and regular engagement with the wider Spectres coaching group.
Our expectation is simple: every coach should leave the Spectres Program better than when they arrived.
Appointment Process
Applications will be reviewed by the Spectres Leadership Team.
Appointments will be made following a comprehensive assessment of coaching capability, leadership, communication, athlete development philosophy, previous experience and demonstrated alignment with the standards and expectations of the Spectres Representative Program.
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an interview as part of the appointment process.

Appointments will be made based on the needs of the program, demonstrated capability and alignment with the standards expected of all Spectres coaches.
