A fixture event of the King’s Birthday Weekend, we’re preparing for our biggest and best tournament yet — bringing together quality competition, and a premium event experience.

All team managers and coaches must read the FAQs in full before registering, particularly the grading guidelines.
Completion of registration confirms that you have read and understood the grading criteria and tournament conditions.
Clubs are strongly encouraged to review the grading framework carefully prior to submitting an entry.

- Choosing a Competition Grade
With over 1,000 teams entering, our grading team take great care to ensure grading is as accurate as possible. Grading suggestions below are based on previous years comparisons.
Use these guidelines to choose a grade and include any notes if your team is missing players, seeking a challenge, or had an unusual season.
Classic Grade (National Junior Classic Eligible Teams Only)
- Only for teams also entered in the National Junior Classic.
- Teams missing Classic selection will be moved to A Grade.
- No payment required at entry stage.
- Email juniortourn@nunawadingbasketball.com.au for a Classic code.
- Payment required within 24 hours of Classic selection if the team is not selected for the National Junior Classic.
Other Grade Guidelines **Subject to change depending on team numbers
A Grade
- All VC, High VJL1, SA Div 1, NSW: Premier and High Div 1.
A Reserve
- Low VJL1 – High VJL2, SA: Low Div 1, NSW: Mid – Low Div 1, QLD: Div 1, Strong Domestic A Grade.
B1 Grade
- Suitable for Mid VJL 2–High VJL3, SA: High Div 2, NSW: High Div 2.
B2 – B3 Grades
- Suitable for Mid VJL3 – Mid VJL4, SA: High-Mid Div 2, NSW: High- Mid Div 2, High Level B Grade Domestic.
B4 – B6 Grade
- Suitable for Low VJL 4– High VJL7, SA: Mid-Low Div 2, NSW: Mid-Low Div 2.
C1 – C2 Grade
- Suitable for Mid VJL 7– Low VJL8, NSW Div 3– High Div 4, mid‑level domestic teams.
C3 – C4 Grade
- Suitable for VJL 9– High VJL11, SA/ NSW Mid Div 4– Div 5
C5 – C6 Grade
- Suitable for VJL 11– VJL12, SA/ NSW High Div 6
D Grade
- Suitable for VJL 12 and below, interstate Div 6 and below, low domestic teams.
- Under 10 Competition Eligibility
- Players who currently play or have played in any representative (rep) competition are NOT eligible for Under 10.
- A Grade (U10): For players not currently in rep but showing strong skills or in rep development squads.
- B Grade (U10): For lower‑level domestic players not yet considered for rep development. Players who regularly play on a lowered ring.

- Stadium Entry
Your team’s entry fee covers all stadium entry for players, coaches, family and supporters.
No additional payment required.
Raffle tickets are an optional way to support the tournament if you choose to purchase a ticket.- Schedule & Game Information
Tournament Days:
- Starts Saturday 8:00am.
- Games start each morning at 8am and conclude on Saturday and Sunday nights by 9.50pm.
- Tournament will be concluded by Monday by 3:30pm (Grand Finals)
- Under 20 games may start each morning at 8am and conclude by 9.50pm on Saturday and Sunday night. Under 20 Grand Finals will be concluded by SUNDAY EVENING
Travel Tip:
Interstate teams should book evening flights. Allow at least 1 hour travel time to Melbourne Airport.Number of Games:
- Minimum 5 games guaranteed.
Game Format:
- No semi‑finals unless grades have a small number of teams.
- Finals Structure:
- Multi‑pool grades → top of each pool plays Grand Final
- Single pool → top 2 teams play Grand Final
- Refereeing Opportunities
Referees—local or interstate—are welcome and accommodated. We are happy to work around associated teams.

Domestic clubs may enter provided players meet age criteria.
- Coach Compatibilities
- We do our best to avoid clashes for coaches responsible for two teams (must be advised on the entry form).
- We cannot accommodate requests for assistant coaches.
- Coaches with three teams are very unlikely to be accommodated.
- Fixture Release
With over 1,000 teams, fixture preparation is complex.
- Expected release: 5:00pm Wednesday prior to the event
- We will notify you if it is earlier or delayed.
- Please do not contact us for updates—this delays the process.
- Registering Additional Players
Team organisers receive a Player Participation link in their confirmation email.
- This link can be forwarded to parents to register players.
- Team organisers must keep this link.

- Team Naming Format
When registering, please use the following format:
TEAM NAME, AGE GROUP, GENDER, TEAM NUMBER

We must have a team number (preferred), colour, or coach name. This assists with grading and ensuring teams are not confused.
- Age Eligibility
Players may compete in an “Under” age group only if they do NOT turn that age in 2026.
Example:
A player turning 14 in 2026 must play Under 16.- Interstate Players & Fees
Interstate teams do not need to pay the Basketball Victoria License fee. You will not be prompted to pay this fee when registering players.

Venue staff do not provide first aid treatment. We can provide addresses of the closest emergency departments or priority care facilities.

Abridged Tournament Rules 2026

- Under age as at 31st December in the year the Tournament is held – Club Representative / Team organiser to verify ages of Club Entries.
- Players are restricted to playing in one (1) team and age group only. The Tournament Committee shall in exceptional circumstances waive this condition if prior approval is applied for.

- Players must play in at least two minor round games to qualify for Semi (if scheduled) and Grand Finals. The Tournament Committee shall in exceptional circumstances waive this condition if prior approval is applied for.
- TEAM QUALIFICATION – The Tournament Committee may limit participants in teams in a particular competition to non – championship players, or players who have gained exemption. Any player who is selected for the Basketball Victoria National Junior Classic is not permitted to play in these competitions, playing of an undeclared championship player or disapproved player shall lead to forfeit of games concerned.
- GRAND FINALS – Grand finals can be played on the Monday up to a 3.30 PM finish. Any age group may be scheduled across the time frame from 8am.
Please note you need to allow at least one hour travel time prior to departure check in for any interstate flights after completion of the game and presentations.

2 × 18‑minute halves
Half time will run for 2 minutes.
TIME OUTS
– 1 time out per team per half
– No time outs allowed in last 2 minutes of first half
– If called at 2:30, teams return at 2:00
– Time outs allowed in last 2 minutes of second half (clock stops)
– Time outs are for 1 minute duration only.
CLOCK STOPPAGES
– Clock stops for all whistles in last 2 minutes of second half
– No substitutions in last 30 seconds of first half
TEAM FOULS
– Free throws from 9th team foul
DRAWS
Draws are NOT permitted
OVERTIME – ROUND GAMES
– If scores are tied at the end of Regulation, the game will move into Golden Point Overtime
– 1‑minute break before Golden Point – The clock does not re-set for golden point. Play continues until a team scores.
– Play continues in the same direction as the second half
– Jump ball at center circle
– Fouls do not reset
– First team to score wins
– No time outs allowed

- LADDERS:
If two teams finish on equal points then the results of the games played against each other ie. the win / loss record will decide their positions. (Head to Head) as per normal VJBL rules
Where three or more teams finish on equal points their order shall be determined by the “For and Against” percentage of the games played between the teams concerned
If two of the three teams finish on equal percentage, then the result of the games played
against each other ie. the win / loss record will decide their positions.
In a competition of 7 or more teams, where teams do not all play each other, the order will be determined by points first then overall percentage. If teams affected have played each other their order shall be determined by the “For and Against” percentage of the games played between the teams concerned. Where three or more teams finish on equal points and any have not played each other then percentage overall will be used.

SIZE 5 BALL – The size 5 ball will be used for all under 10 and 12 girls and boys teams
SIZE 6 BALL – The size 6 ball will be used for all under14-U20 Girls games and under 14 boys teams.
SIZE 7 BALL – The size 7 ball will be used for all under16.18 and 20 boys teams

- ZONE DEFENCE – UNDER 12, 14 GAMES – Zone defence is discouraged in Under 10, 12 and 14 games. Teams should use ‘ man to man ‘ defence throughout the games.
- 3 Point line The Under 16, 18 and 20 Age groups shall use the extended 3 point line (6.75m). The Under 10,12 & 14 age groups shall use the short 3 point line (6.25m)
- 15. ALL UNDER 10 GAMES – The Mercy Rule will apply when a team has a 15 points lead. It is compelled to use zone defence within the three-point lines.
- Ring Height All age groups use the normal 10’0” ring height.
- The first half of the match and the start of the golden point period shall begin with a jumpball. In all other jumpball situations, possession shall be given to the team as indicated by the possession arrow.
- All teams shall have a principal colour singlet and an alternate set available for use at the tournament. The priority of use shall be that the first named (home team) in a game in the fixture shall be entitled to wear their principal singlets. Game must still be played if the opposition does not have a spare set. There is no points penalty.
- The Tournament Disputes Committee will adjudicate all disputes. These may be reported by referees, coaches or club officials. A “Protest Form” is available from the “Tournament Operations Centre” Nunawading Stadium, and must be lodged with the “Centre” immediately.
- FIRST AID / AMBULANCE POLICY.
First Aid and/or medical treatment will be the responsibility of the individual concerned and/or the individuals parent/guardian or team supervisor. First Aid is not administered by staff at any tournament venue..

Where the request that an Ambulance is needed to take a player to hospital, the player will be responsible for any ambulance and hospital costs associated with treatment etc.
- All Stadiums used during this Tournament have a rule of “No swinging on rings or nets” and imposes an immediate ban from the stadium and immediate disqualification from all stadiums for the remainder of the Tournament.
