Registrations for the Nunawading Spectres U12–U18 Representative Tryouts for the 2026/2027 VJBL season are now closed.
Thank you to all athletes who have registered to participate.
Official Tryouts will be conducted from Friday 2 October to Friday 9 October 2026 at Nunawading Basketball Centre.
Only athletes who completed the required registration process prior to the closing date are eligible to participate. Walk-up registrations will not be accepted.
IMPORTANT TRYOUT COMMUNICATION
With approximately 1,200 athletes participating in the 2026/2027 Spectres tryout process, our administration and coaching teams are managing a significant volume of athletes, families, sessions, assessments and communication across the U12–U18 Boys and Girls programs.
All required information and updates will be communicated directly to registered athletes and families as soon as it is available.
We ask families to please monitor their registered email address, this webpage and Nunawading Basketball social media channels throughout the tryout period.
To allow our administration team to focus on delivering the tryout process and communicating information in a timely manner, please do not call or email the office requesting general updates, selection information or asking when the next communication will be sent.
If information has not yet been distributed, it is because the relevant process is still being completed or finalised.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as our team works through the tryout process for approximately 1,200 athletes.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
TRYOUT ELIGIBILITY
Only athletes who completed the required registration process prior to the closing date are eligible to participate in Spectres Tryouts.
Walk-up registrations will not be accepted.
Permission to Train (PTT)
Athletes currently registered with another Victorian representative association must obtain a Permission to Train (PTT) before attending Spectres Tryouts.
If your approved Permission to Train has not been received before your scheduled session, you will unfortunately be unable to participate.

Please note that Basketball Victoria regulations do not permit athletes to participate in another association’s tryouts until the completion of the current VJBL season.
REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM REGISTRATION FEE
The Nunawading Spectres Representative Program Registration Fee for the 2026/2027 season is:
$690 per athlete (Inc. GST)
Successful athletes will receive an email containing:
- Team Selection Offer
- PlayHQ Registration Link
- Payment Instructions
Registration is confirmed once:
- Your Team Offer has been accepted.
- Registration has been completed via PlayHQ.
- Payment has been made in full.

NEW SPECTRES UNIFORM
The 2026/2027 season marks an exciting new chapter for the Nunawading Spectres, with the introduction of a new official playing uniform.
All athletes selected into the Nunawading Spectres Representative Program will be required to purchase the new Official Spectres Uniform Pack.
The complete uniform package, inclusions, pricing and ordering information will be released prior to team selections, allowing families to review all information before accepting their place within the program.
Please note that the purchase of the Official Spectres Uniform Pack is in addition to the Representative Program Registration Fee.
TRYOUT PROCESS
Selection into the Nunawading Spectres Representative Program is not guaranteed.
Our Representative Tryout Process is conducted across multiple stages, with the athlete pool narrowed following each session.
Selection decisions are based on a range of factors including:
- Basketball ability
- Long-term development potential
- Coachability
- Attitude and effort
- Team balance
- Positional requirements
Progressing through one stage of the process does not guarantee progression to the next, nor final team selection.
OFFICIAL TRYOUT SCHEDULE

TEAM SELECTION TIMELINE
Team Selections
Every effort will be made to communicate team selections on Saturday 10 October 2026.
With approximately 1,200 athletes participating in the tryout process, selections will be communicated progressively as individual age groups are finalised.
Please do not contact the Representative Program office requesting selection updates or anticipated release times. Families will be contacted directly once selections for their age group are ready to be communicated.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS
As Basketball Victoria continues to review the Victorian Junior Basketball League competition structure, Nunawading Basketball continues to strengthen and expand its athlete development pathway.
Information regarding the following programs will be released separately.
Spectres Development Squad (2018 Born)
Designed for athletes born in 2018 preparing for future representative basketball.
The program includes:
- One weekly training session
- Three tournaments (Australia Day, Labour Day and King’s Birthday)
- Entry into the Winter 2027 Friday Night MEBA Domestic Competition
Future Spectres (2019 Born)
Designed for athletes born in 2019 progressing through the MEBA/GEBC domestic pathway and aspiring to become future Spectres representative athletes.
The program includes:
- One weekly skills session
- Development aligned to the Spectres Athlete Skills Matrix
- Age-appropriate technical, tactical and fundamental skill development
Please note that current Basketball Victoria regulations do not permit triple bottom-age athletes to participate in VJBL competition.
U20 Spectres
Information regarding U20 Spectres Tryouts will be released separately.
The above schedule applies only to U12–U18 Representative Teams.
