मेलबर्न – The Nunawading Spectres are excited to announce that Burwood One Shopping Centre has signed on in partnership of the upcoming NBL1 South Indigenous Round, part of the larger NAIDOC Week (4-11 July 2021) celebrations.

The partnership with Burwood One will see the Nunawading Spectres NBL1 South teams take the floor on Friday 9 July against Hobart in a custom designed Indigenous uniform set to be unveiled next week.

Fran Hutcheson, Marketing Manager at Burwood One Shopping Centre was excited to rekindle the partnership between Burwood One and the Nunawading Spectres and align with such an important theme as the NBL1 Indigenous Round and NAIDOC Week.

“Burwood One is thrilled to be a part of this partnership; being a part of building awareness towards better understanding of Indigenous Australians”.

Indigenous Round will be celebrated across the NBL1 South, the second time the event has been marked, the league introducing the round in its inaugural season in 2019.

“The Nunawading Spectres are excited to actively participate in this year’s NBL1 South Indigenous Round,” Nunawading Basketball Operations Manager Paul Flynn said.

“We would like to extend our thanks to Burwood One for their support, which has provided us the opportunity to create in consultation with members of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, an Indigenous uniform design to acknowledge and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in line with national NAIDOC Week activities.”

About NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. Each year, there is a different focus city for the National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony. The focus city, National NAIDOC Poster Competition and the NAIDOC Awards recipients are selected by the National NAIDOC Committee.

Local community celebrations during NAIDOC Week are encouraged and often organised by communities, government agencies, local councils, schools and workplaces.
