The Nunawading Spectres have signed forward Darcy Harding for the upcoming 2020 NBL1 season, increasing the Spectres versatility through their frontcourt rotation.

Harding joins the Spectres having played the inaugural NBL1 season and previous SEABL season with the Diamond Valley Eagles. In 2019, Harding averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists across 18 games for the Eagles.

“I’m really looking forward to my basketball in 2020,” Harding said whilst on break for the Christmas / New Year holidays.

“I’m excited about becoming a Spectre and being a part of such a great program with a winning culture.”

“I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere when playing at the Graveyard and I’m keen to make it my home.”

Harding, a regular on the 3×3 Hustle circuit has an already established rapport with a number of the Spectres NBL1 Players, with the likes Tom Wright, Andrew Steel and Costas Hronopoulos all taking part in events this past calendar year.

“Having a bit of experience with Dave (Biwer) and a few of the boys previously in the 3×3 space, I have a good idea of what’s to come and what will be expected of me when I start with the team in January.”

Harding, originally from Moruya in country New South Wales began his senior career with the Albury Wodonga Bandits before being signed as an NBL development player with the Sydney Kings in 2016.

Nunawading Head Coach Dave Biwer equally as excited to add Harding to his tinkered line-up for 2020.

“Darcy is going to fit right in, he works hard and approaches the game the way we need it to be played,” Biwer said.

“He’s got a great frame on him and an ability to stretch the floor. That kind of versatility, where I can play a guy both inside and out is going to be really important for us. We’re going to take teams matchups and try to play around with them a little, not let them get settled into a game.”

Whilst the Spectres haven’t stepped on court in an official capacity as yet, Harding was spotted at a couple of the men’s open runs prior to the Christmas break. He joins Tom Wright and Costas Hronopoulos as Nunawading’s confirmed signings.

Nunawading are expected to begin preseason mid-January, with the season proper scheduled to tip-off in April. In 2020, the Spectres are set to play 11 home game double-headers (women’s / men’s) at The Graveyard – Nunawading Basketball Centre, with the season scheduled to start in April.
