| SECTION APPENDIX — 1 — FILL-IN MATRIX |
FILL-IN MATRIX — PLAIN LANGUAGE GUIDE &** ELIGIBILITY GRID**
How to Read the Fill-In Matrix
The Fill-In Matrix governs which players from within a club are eligible to fill in for another team within the same club. Two rules apply simultaneously:
| Rule |
Explanation |
| Rule 1 — Age Group Jump |
A fill-in player may only play for a team up to TWO age groups above their own registered age group. Example: a U11 player can fill in for a U13 or U15 team, but NOT U17, U19 or U21. |
| Rule 2 — Grade Eligibility |
For a fill-in ONE age group up, eligible grades depend on the player’s own registered grade — see the grids below. A/AR can fill into the top 3 grades; B/BR into the top 4; C/CR into the top 5; D/DR and below into any grade. For a fill-in TWO age groups up (the maximum permitted), any grade is eligible regardless of the player’s own grade. |
Plain Language Summary — Maximum Age Group
The following table shows the maximum age group a player can fill into:
| Player’s Registered Age Group |
Maximum Age Group They Can Fill Into |
| Under 08 |
U08 or U09 (any grade) |
| Under 09 |
U09, or U11 (subject to grade grid), or U13 (any grade) |
| Under 11 |
U11, or U13 (subject to grade grid), or U15 (any grade) |
| Under 13 |
U13, or U15 (subject to grade grid), or U17 (any grade) |
| Under 15 |
U15, or U17 (subject to grade grid), or U19 (any grade) |
| Under 17 |
U17, or U19 (subject to grade grid), or U21 (any grade) |
| Under 19 |
U19 or U21 (subject to grade grid) |
| Under 21 |
U21 only |
| Important: A fill-in ONE age group up is subject to the grade eligibility grids below. A fill-in TWO age groups up is open to any grade — no grid applies. |
Worked Examples
| Example 1 — Grade restricted (one age group up): A player registered in U11 Grade A (11A/AR) wants to fill in for a U13 team. Looking at the U11 to U13 grid, an 11A/AR player can fill into 13A, 13B or 13C only — NOT 13D or below. |
| Example 2 — Grade open (two age groups up): A player registered in U13, any grade, wants to fill in for a U17 team. Because this is a two-age-group fill-in, any grade is eligible — the player may fill into any grade in U17. |
| Example 3 — Small Club Exemption: A club has U15 and U11 teams but no U13 team. They need a fill-in for their U15 team. Normally the fill-in would come from their U13 team. Since no U13 team exists, under Clause 37.2A they can source from their U11 team — the next lower age group they have. As this remains a two-age-group fill-in (U11 to U15), any grade is eligible. |
| Example 4 — Club-Registered Member Fill-In: A club fields teams on Friday nights only and has no Saturday GEBC team. They need a fill-in for their Friday U13 team. They have a player who is formally registered as a club member in PlayHQ, holds a BV Licence with another association’s Saturday competition, and has no MEBA/GEBC registration this Friday. The club applies to the Competition Manager at least 2 hours before the game for pre-approval (first use). Approval is granted. For the rest of the season, that player has standing approval and can be recorded courtside without further applications. |
